DeLay's Deluxe Lifestyle

© 2005 Com•Log•ic

The Associated Press reviewed public documents that tell quite a story of how Tom DeLay was living high on the hog such as, at least 48 visits to golf clubs and resorts; 100 flights aboard company planes; 200 stays at hotels, many world-class; and 500 meals at restaurants, some averaging nearly $200 for a dinner for two.

Instead of his personal expense, the meals and trips for DeLay and his associates were paid with donations collected by the campaign committees, political action committees and children's charity the Texas Republican created during his rise to the top of Congress. His lawyer says the expenses are part of DeLay's effort to raise money from Republicans and to spread the GOP message.

Concerning Christine DeLay, here's what her attorney has to say about her charity work.

"It wasn't like she did this 9 to 5, but it was an ongoing project," Richard Cullen said, noting her work was commensurate with the project and had nothing to do with her husband or any official congressional business. "This was something that she found to be very interesting, very ... worthwhile."

I guess I would find it very worthwhile indeed, $3200-$3400. a MONTH, very worthwhile indeed.
$115,000 for a job that she didn't have to work 9-5, sheesh I wonder what her hours were, once in a blue moon?

Joe Conason wrote a terrific article back in the Spring of 2005, about the charities involving the DeLay's.
